The game design is currently setup so that you will join random battles of 15 vs. 15 players on maps ranging from one to two kilometers squared. You drive your tank with the familiar WSAD and aim with the mouse like your standard shooter, but instead, you will play the majority of the game from a third person perspective, only moving into a first person view to ensure a solid hit when shooting at a distant target. The form of gameplay originally intended for this game was to be relatively fast paced, while incorporating strong strategic thinking. Unfortunately, a recent patch, which corrected a major problem with the gameplay, created several more problems which has had the opposite effect. Now, the game tends to favor the more defensive minded players. The developers are working on these issues so we'll cross our fingers and hope they get it right. On to the tanks! There are currently Russian, German, and American tank trees available. Russian tanks tend to favor mobility with hard hitting but slow firing guns. German tanks have more armor and their rounds do less damage, but penetrate armor better. American tanks tend to fall in-between these two with the notable exception of having very weak hull armor, but making up for it with massive turret armor. The stats of these tanks have led to a lot of contention on the forums. Fortunately, the devs have noticed and are working on ways to ensure that the tanks will be properly balanced upon release. The tanks themselves are broken down into different categories. Light tanks make great, nimble scouts, but have almost no ability to damage tanks in the higher tier battles. Medium tanks are the bread and butter of the game. They provide decent punch and can take a few hits as well. Get them into a slug match though, and you'll be pulling yourself out of that smoking wreck in no time. Heavy tanks are the trundling beasts of destruction you expect them to be. They are slow, can take a beating, and dish out the pain as well. A heavy tank on it's own, however, is pretty easy prey. When flanked, their side and rear armor is generally easy to penetrate and their high damage cannons have a long enough reload time that a group of mediums will pick a lone heavy apart before it can get off more than a few shots. Specialty tanks include the sniper tank destroyers and the eye-in-the-sky Self-Propelled Gun. The MMO Side of World of Tanks As many MMOs before it, World of Tanks equates your performance on the battlefield to experience points earned. You earn your experience by spotting enemy tanks and by damaging enemy tanks. The more damage you do in a match, the more experience you earn. Also, you receive a massive bonus to your experience for being on the winning team at the end of the battle. You use your experience points for researching upgrades for your current tank and eventually to research the next level tank. As you gain experience, your crew does as well. The higher trained your crew is, the better they will be at their job. Your driver will accelerate faster, your gunner will be more accurate, and your loaders will be faster.
Graphics in World of Tanks are pretty good, but somewhat dated. Fans of the bleeding edge need not apply. Many of the environments are destructible, which adds an additional layer of strategy. Even on lower end systems, the game runs smoothly. Besides the issues listed above, the game is very enjoyable to play. The 15 minute battles are fast enough that you never really get bored while playing and you feel like you can stop playing at any time. This gives plenty of room for both the most hardcore gamers, as well as the most casual. The economic choice of buying gold for some minor perks also seems to work out well. The game is certainly not "pay to win" by any means. Getting some extra experience and access to better ammunition and unique tanks is about the limit of it. Even with the better or "gold" ammo, a player can still be brought down by a player with no gold whatsoever. Overall, I think this game has some legs. The developers are definitely listening to the beta testers and are working on the problems identified. The developer's determination to get this game right before they release it also points to many good things to come. |

The matchmaking which really starts at tier 3 puts most tanks in a pool where you can meet opponents up to 3 tiers higher than you. Is that a that an unsurmountable problem, I dont think so.
Firstly, you usually dont only meet stronger tanks, meaning there are some others on the other team at your tier (or below). Secondly, you have to learn how to put your tank to good use for the sake of the team. Not only kills are rewarded, but also supports, spottings, etc - last but not least the highest reward awaits if your team prevails. So, if you have an oppenent in your sights that you cant really harm, stay quiet and report so that stronger tanks can assist you. This is about teamplay - not a playing ground for wannebe cowboys and "he-is-stronger-than-me-mummy" whiners. Learning the game will take a while and it can be very challenging, but that is the fun. Like in any other game some fetaure could use improvement, but seriously, this thing just left beta and I have seen much much worse. This is a nicely done and enjoyable F2P game, that you can pick up at anytime and leave at any time.
Read the forums!! There are many complaints about these things. I have many screen shots where I am in a tier 3-5 up against tier 8-9. Not really fair.
This is almost exactly worlded like the link below.

1- Multiplayer (Play with friends = $ and not properly)
- I buy gold..but..i only can play with 2 friends MAX.(FAIL)
- Ok..I have a friend that pays gold as i do, he can play with 2 friends...i can play with 2 friends, but why we CANT play together the 6 ¿?¿? (EPIC FAIL)
2 - Matching system (needs some adjusts)
Having 10 tank tiers, when having the 3-4 tier tanks you SUFFER.Half of battles involve tanks 2+ tiers better and u cant do nothing but scout and die in 1/2 shots.
Tanks no longer go against other tanks which are vastly superior to them. Usually tanks are within one or two tiers of each other. I've seen plenty of matches where the Tier 3 Panzer III Ausf A is the king of the hill, using its superior armour against BT-2s and Pzkfw IIs. My Tier 3 Marder just racked up 5 kills, in a match where the toughest enemy tank was a Tier 4 US M3 Lee.
The game is much more fun since they changed the tiering. Your comments no longer reflect the current state of the game.
The game is enjoyable for over and hour or until you reached Tier 3, after that is a painful unenjoyable experience were you are irrelevant (you cant do anything except to be cannonfodder for higher tiers) to the outcome of the match. The bugs refered not are anything new, was reported months ago and developers (who DONT listen to the beta testers) ignored them.
The game is interesting, but at this date is NOT enjoyable. Anyone coming to this game thinking to having some fun killing tanks can do it if they never leave the Tier 2 games and never play with friends. Do one of these (or worse, the 2 togheter) and you are for a world of pain.
