Everyone on the team is thrilled to see that the overwhelming reaction to Fallen Earth's Free2Play/Premium benefits was positive; you build up a certain amount of anxiety as you hope that what you feel is right and fair turns out to actually be right and fair in everyone else's eyes...and yet still be compelling enough to make anyone want to buy it. We're confident we've struck a nice balance here but, as always, we're interested in as much feedback as you're willing to give us.

Oily barbarian MMO Age of Conan has turned free-to-play. The game is now known as Age of Conan: Unchained.

Last week, a report surfaced that Valve was working on a free-to-play project. Today, that project was revealed as being the PC edition of the popular shooter Team Fortress 2, which was initially shipped as part of the compilation The Orange Box in 2007. Since then, the Windows version of the game has undergone many updates, the latest of which will apparently transform it into a microtransaction-funded title. 

The LEGO Group announced this week that its popular LEGO themed MMORPG, LEGO Universe, will  go free-to-play this summer. The free-to-play version of the game will allow players to play for an unlimited amount of time but they will be limited to two of the game's 15 adventure zones. The MMO will also switch from a boxed product to a free digital download.

NCsoft announced this week that it plans to relaunch its popular super hero-themed MMORPG, City of Heroes, as a free-to-play game later this year. NCsoft launched the game over seven years ago. The game joins other high profile titles that charge no monthly subscription fee including Lord of the Rings Online, EverQuest II, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Champions Online, and Fallen Earth.

Free-to-play specialists GamersFirst have since taken on the huge task of resurrecting the title and recently sat down with Eurogamer to discuss where the game's original developer went wrong. The key issue it has had to address, according to COO Bjorn Book-Larsson, is balance. "When they released it they didn't have enough time to polish all the components and make it coherent," he explained.

Beleaguered MMO APB may be ready for testing as a fresh-faced free-to-play game next month, new owner GamersFirst has revealed. Details on how to apply for the closed beta will release this week, the APB_Reloaded Twitter promised.
