In an effort to further support the thriving Half-Life 2 mod community, Valve has invited five of the top mods to the Steam platform and will be available in the same way Steam games are. That’s to say, for the below mods, you’ll never have to download their patches again or worry about the best mirror to download from, all you need to do is download it directly from Steam and let the updates come.
This is indeed an historic event in the world of game modding. While there are many developers that throw a lot of support into modding, only Valve has gone as far as to dedicate their own personal resources to promoting these fan-developed games. Indeed this will only serve to strengthen the individual mods above and the modding community as a whole.
Along with having the mods available directly over Steam, each mod now has integrated SteamWorks support. SteamWorks, for those who are unaware, is a developer tool that allows the games’ developers to tie in the Steam community with their games with tracked stats, achievements, and so forth.
