During the recent StarCraft 2 discussion panel, Rob Pardo announced that StarCraft 2 will now be released as a trilogy. He reinforces the new announcement with the team deciding they wanted to flesh out each race and give them more depth, not just in storytelling but in the game play itself.
It was noted that each campaign will have approximately 25-30 missions not including any side or bonus missions. This is obviously a huge direction for the franchise and should provide a deeper campaign experience overall!
The first trilogy to be released will undoubtedly be the Terran campaign. Titled "Wings of Liberty", the Terran storyline will follow in the foot steps of Jim Raynor who will take on the Zerg once again and uncover mysteries set in motion by his Protoss ally Zeratul. The Zerg and Protoss will also feature their own seperate campaign some time after, titled "Heart of the Swarm" and "Legacy of the Void" respectively.
When asked when we might see the first of the trilogy released, Blizzard jokingly replied, "When it’s done".
