The massive TF2 update that players have been waiting for will be released on Tuesday, according to Neowin.net. The site reported that it visited developer and publisher Valve last week, where it learned the release date.

First up is a new escort-style game mode, Payload, which will debut with a new map, Goldrush. In Payload, the blue team must escort a bomb, loaded onto a mine cart, across three capture points; the more blue team members that surround the cart the faster it moves. The red team’s job is to halt the cart by killing the blue team members around it. After 30 seconds devoid of any blue units, the cart will move backwards; this should make for some good times.

The update will also include 36 medic achievements that will unlock three new weapons: the Blutsauger, Critzcrieg, and Ubersaw. The medic class is the first to receieve such an overhaul, but Valve has said that updates to the game’s other eight classes are expected, as well.

Let’s hope Valve delivers on the April 28 release date, seeing as how it is known to be on a different schedule than mere mortals. For more information on the TF2 update and weapons check out our recent hands-on preview.
