EA Down $454 Million Due to Investments
Posted by Acidrain, 193 days ago May 16, 2008 05:35

Even though EA just proved it was the leading publisher across North America in 2008 and boasted 27 games selling over one million units (three more than in 2007), the company still posted a net loss of $454 million [Doctorevil_face] US dollars in its fiscal 2008 results. The primary reason for the loss was due to the fact that EA made some hefty investments, such as the $800 million plus used to acquire Bioware and Pandemic Studios. EA is also aggressively pursuing the acquisition of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company. Putting aside past and future investments, EA had one of the most profitable years ever. The company posted a $3.665 billion net revenue for 2008, which beats out 2007’s net revenue by 19 percent.

Games that spearheaded EA’s fiscal growth were Army of Two, Burnout Paradise, Rock Band and The Sims, which recently sold over 100 million units.

EA’s fiscal 2008 year just ended on March 31, and John Riccitiello, EA CEO, says he is optimistic about the company’s future and believes EA will deliver $1 billion in revenue growth for fiscal 2009. Among the myriad of heavy hitters scheduled to come out of EA’s fiscal 2009 year are Spore, The Sim 3, and Dead Space.
