Team Fortress 2 Q & A Team Fortress 2 Q & A
The months that lead up to the release of Valve’s Orange Box were met with much anticipation.

This Holiday Season, Give the Gift of ValveThis Holiday Season, Give the Gift of Valve
As a reader of Planet Half-Life, you most likely have no need for Steam Store bundle packages that include many of the titles you probably already own and have for years. But what about your friends and family?
Happy 10th Birthday, Half-Life!
Today is an historic day in the gaming world. Half-Life, winner of no less than 51 Game of the Year awards, is celebrating its tenth anniversary today. Half-Life revolutionized the gaming world by bringing a rich story and an intense action gameplay into a single package on an engine that set the course for the modding world indefinitely.
Left 4 Dead Tops Orange Box Pre-orders by 95%,
Pre-sales of Valve’s zombie shooter Left 4 Dead (PC, 360) are outperforming those of the company’s hit game collection The Orange Box by nearly twofold, according to the developer.
Team Fortress 2 Update
An minor update for Team Fortress 2 released last night, resolving a few issues and things of that nature.
Valve on Episode Three: ’A More Ambitious Project’
Following up on recent comments regarding Half-Life 2: Episode Three, Shacknews caught up with Valve marketing VP Doug Lombardi to briefly discuss the anticipated sequel.
A Fuller Life: Half-Life vs. Half-Life 2
Alec Meer over at the popular Rock, Paper, Shotgun takes a comparative look at Half-Life and Half-Life 2 and tells us why he (and so many others) consider Half-Life to be a superior gameplay experience.
EVGA Team Fortress 2 Scout Tournament
Hardware guru EVGA is hosting their very own Team Fortress 2 tournament with some great prizes to be won. The tournament will feature only the new arena maps and will be restricted to only the scout class. The prizes are as follows:
Dinosaurs vs. Robots? Jailbreak! Media Update
That’s right, the upcoming release of Jailbreak! will be sporting a new look, and needless to say a very unique one at that. The new player models are, yup, you guessed it, dinosaurs and robots!
Finding the Time to Bleed
Since the release of Meet the Sandvich in August, several people have asked us how something we’d boasted would be "our magnum opus," "over four hours long" and "make Citizen Kane look like something dumb a complete idiot would make," ended up being one un-dramatic minute spent inside a refrigerator.
No Team Fortress 2 Updates Until Next Year
Valve’s class-based multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 won’t receive its next major update until next year, marketing VP Doug Lombardi has informed Shacknews.
Chell’s Legend : A Portal Mod
If you’re anything like me, you loved Portal. Maybe even more than that, perhaps you bought a Weighted Companion Cube Plushy (I still want one), and dressed up like one for Halloween. Either way, the ending of Portal left you wanting more, much more.
Stargate: Legacy October ’08 Update
I don’t know about anyone else here, but I love Sci Fi movies and shows that pit modern day weaponry and technology against aliens and their obviously-superior technology. Following this logic, the leading candidate for my prime-time viewing is obviously the Stargate and Battlestar Galactica series. However, I also love videogames. Unfortunately, while it doesn’t look like I’ll be blasting Cylons with vaguely-Earthlike weaponry for a while, these guys seem to have the Stargate spectrum under control.
Git along there, little doggies
Work on the next class pack is gearing up, a little slower than we’d like. In the meantime, I thought I’d post some answers to the common email questions we receive.
LittleBigPortal?
For those of you unaware of its existence, LittleBigPlanet is a PS3-exclusive title that allows you to create your own physics-based games within a huge online community (sort of like Garry’s Mod, except platform-based), and is being developed by Media Molecule. MM has revealed that they were, prior to LittleBigPlanet, developing a game described as "more Portally than Portal" and "Portal, but with scale factor." The developers had even met with Valve Software who had suggested they develop a Portal game together.
Five Mods Coming to Steam
In an effort to further support the thriving Half-Life 2 mod community, Valve has invited five of the top mods to the Steam platform and will be available in the same way Steam games are.
Steam Client Update Released
An update for the Steam client has just been launched. The changes are as follows:
HL2: The Unofficial Portal Prequel
While Valve is making an official prequel to Portal (as they had announced a few months ago), a small group of developers (that originally started as a single person making strong headway) have been working on Portal: Prelude.
Weekly PC Sales: The Orange Box Reappears
Continuing its weekly tradition, sales-tracking marketing research firm NPD has released its regular list of the best-selling PC games at US retailers.
TF2/HL Week Long ReCap!
If you didn’t have the chance to see some of the information related to Team Fortress2 / Half Life that we cover, then check out the past weeks recap!
TF: A Grim Bloody Fable
The path to arriving at a final design for a character is sometimes a long and winding one. This was especially the case for the Demoman and we thought it would be interesting to step through that process and shed a little light on how we arrive at our final designs.
